It’s here folks! Roll up! Get your eyes open as the world’s biggest boardgame event opens its doors to the public.
Outside the event there’s quite a buzz. People are arriving from shuttle buses, the underground stations and nearby streets. I almost had my hat on properly for this photo 😂

Meeting other folks at Spiel is always a treat. I met Chris from Unfringed Things. He’s got a lovely collection of games titles to his name ☺️
The team of Matt and Zara from Mazaza Games are fab. And always up for a photo!
It was lovely to chat with Zara about general bits n bobs and games in development.
Some of the decorations at Spiel are quite impressive or tentacular!
Artist Alley is a brilliant section of Spiel. The artistic talent is exquisite. I bought a few items from there ☺️
Some of the event is outside. But it’s just the food and drink stands.
On one of the coffee stands is this dog. When you place a coin on its plate, the coin drops and the dog jiggles as if it’s eating it. It’s great 😂
The range of boardgame designers is wide at Spiel. We bought some games and art from Taiwan Boardgame Design last year. It was great to see them again this year and buy a few more things ☺️
I would not like to encounter this panda 😂
There are talks too. Sometimes you recognise people in the crowd 😝
I saw the Spiel mascot wandering around, with a minder. So I asked if I could grab a photo….and hey presto!
It’s often tricky to actually play games at Spiel… bizarrely. But we managed to grab a demo of Ikebana. It was a fun game, but not available for sale yet. Seemingly there are thirty copies expected but only on Saturday.
We managed to circle back to the Kavango stand, and got a photo with Matt this time. Will we get a photo with Matt and Zara in the same picture? 🤔😂
We met Jenny and Justin at Spiel. We usually bump into each other while eating food. Meeting by boardgames was actually weird 😂
I spent a bit of time trying to solve this wooden puzzle. I did not get very far 😂
Spotted this statue on one of the stands. Don’t look at his bits!
We met up for a booked meal with a heap of friends after the event. This annual get together is a really nice thing ☺️
