Day 10 – Two Bob Bits
Seemingly some of the delicious things yesterday did not agree with me. I was reminded of two things today. One was a poetry session years ago, hosted by Giovanni “Spoz” Esposito. He recited a poem of his own devising in which the protagonist experiences a bout of illness. He describes his bum like a boxer;…

Day 9 – The Aquarium and Defences
The Atlantic Sea-Park (or Atlanterhavsparken) is an aquarium around a one-hour walk from our accommodation in Ålesund. Obviously, if you choose to stay somewhere closer then it won’t be an hour 😂 On the walk I was surprised at how mild the temperature was. It was a bit rainy, and breezy, but the air was…

Day 8 – Ålesund
Pronounced “oh-la-sun” it’s a port town on the West coast of Norway. A short walk from our accommodation is a hillside path, Fjellstua. This is 418 steps up to a hilltop view. We checked at the local tourist information to see if there was a café at the top. “There is, yes” was the reply.…

Day 7 – All of the ferries
Starting in Alversund, the destination was Ålesund, further north in Norway. Around 7 hours of riding. The weather was perfect; cool, a little cloud and dry. Just over an hour into the trip was the first ferry at Oppendal to Lavik. There was a cool little spot next to an old bridge about an hour…

Day 6 – Every weather
A ride across the mountains called for good weather. The Norse weather gods had other ideas 😂 Heading from Kongsberg to Alversund. All in Norway today. The morning started with rain. And some attention to the Pinlock visor insert which is meant to provide a type of double glazing so that your visor didn’t fog…

Day 5 – Out of this world
Starting the day with blue sky and super fresh air was unexpected but absolutely delightful! And, as I was packing the bike, the Airbnb host popped out and asked if I’d like some apples from his garden. He got me three! I rode back into the centre of Gothenburg and parked up by Slottsskogens park…

Day 4 – We don’t mention the “r” word
Drip, drip, drop little….October showers….that sounds pretty quaint and lovely. However, good ol’ fashioned rain wasn’t the ideal weather for the morning. The wander around the woodland dropped off the agenda, though I did have a quick look. It looked stunning. The tiny town on the tree stump was very cool. And both photo’s make…

Day 3 – Over the water
Waking up in Bremen felt a bit surreal. I don’t think my head has caught up with the fact that this trip is actually happening 😂 I’d planned to see a bit of Bremen before heading north. I needed to grab some fuel; last night, as it was pretty late, I broke the biking advice…

Day 2 – Three countries
After a night of great rest in a very comfortable bed (yes…I did take a photo of the mattress label 😂) I was ready for the day. Not ready enough, as it would turn out. I did a quick walk to a nature reserve about ten minutes away, and it was very misty. Rather disappointed…

Day 1 – Into Belgium
Going to bed at 1.30am wasn’t on my list of things to do on the night before setting off to Europe! I was doing the final bits of packing and decided to test my Sat Nav. It’s actually one for a car, but I’ve used it on other trips on the bike and it’s worked…
